The First Crusades

You might have heard the word CRUSADE and might think of long journeys, strong knights
and possibly golden cups and treasure! The Crusades were actually a very long series of wars that lasted about 400 years, starting way back in 1096.

Why do we study the crusades though? Well... we will look into that in further detail in a later class, but without the crusades the world would not be like it is today... it resulted in some wonderful (and some rather terrible) things, for instance:

- We use knives and forks because of the crusades

- Globalisation (different countries across the world working together) sped up because of the crusades

- The Feudal System (remember from last term!) started to dismantle (fall apart) and people (like you and me) started to have more rights and freedoms

But... before all of that happened... there was the very first crusade.

1. In your History Notepad (or using Word) create a table that looks like this (click on the image to the left to make it bigger):

2. Watch the video, as you go pause and start as you find some important information to add to your note taker.

(oh... and they do speak a bit fast in this video, so if you need to ask your parent/s or carer to change the speed so its a bit slower - but it could just be my old ears!)
